Brasser sixth individually at Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite

OKLAHOMA CITY – Fort Hays State Women’s Golf opened the spring portion of its 2021-22 campaign at the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invitational, hosted by Southern Nazarene University on Monday and Tuesday (Mar. 7-8) at the Lincoln Park Golf Course, a par-71 layout. Morgan Brasser turned in a strong top-10 performance in a tie for sixth, shooting 4-over par overall. The Tigers finished ninth in a field of 15 teams.

Brasser had a great opening day, shooting an even-par 71 in the opening round, sitting just one stroke back of the lead. She carded four birdies, five bogeys, and nine pars in that round, doing the majority of her damage on par fives where she went 3-under among the four on the course. On day two, she was dead even in birdies and bogeys with three each, but a pair of double bogeys pushed her score up to four-over for the day. Otherwise, she carded 10 pars in the second round.

Shauna Lee also shot in the 70s on day one with a 79, then shot 82 in her second round to finish at +19 overall (79-82, 161) and tied for 40th. She had 18 pars and one birdie overall during the tournament. Kira Mestl finished in a tie for 49th with rounds of 83 and 81 (164). She had 14 pars and two birdies throughout the tournament. Lexie Ridder figured into the team score for the Tigers on day one with an 86. She backed that with an 87 on day two. Kerrigan Rudolph bounced back from an opening round 90 to shoot 81 on day two and finish 60th (171). Ridder was two strokes behind in a tie for 62nd (173).

Central Oklahoma was the team champion at 19-over par overall (587). Oklahoma Christian was two strokes back at +21 (589) and Oklahoma City University was third at +25 (593) . The Tigers shot 319 (+35) as a team both days for a total of 638.

There was a three-way tie for first between Felisa Sajulga of Newman University, and Emma Shelley and Susana Olivares of Central Oklahoma. They all shot just 1-over par overall.

The Tiger women return to action on March 14-15 at the Hillcat Classic in Owasso, Oklahoma.
