Women’s basketball heads to Lincoln on Saturday

The Fort Hays State women’s basketball team wraps up a quick road trip Saturday (Feb. 15) when the Tigers battle the Blue Tigers of Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. Opening tip from Jason Gym is set for 1 p.m.

The Black and Gold are looking to improve upon their 17-6 (8-5 MIAA) record, while the Blue Tigers (3-20, 0-14 MIAA) are hoping to snap a 12-game losing streak.

The Tigers have fared well in the all-time series, winning 12 of the 13 matchups with Lincoln (12-1). The Black and Gold Tigers have won nine in a row, with the lone Lincoln win coming eight years ago (1/21/12). FHSU has never lost to Lincoln in Jefferson City, going 5-0 in the Missouri capital. All 13 meetings in series history have come under head coach Tony Hobson.

Whitney Randall recorded her first-career double-double against the Blue Tigers last year, totaling 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-59 win (2/16/19). Belle Barbieri averages 9.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games against the Blue Tigers, while Kacey Kennett is putting up 7.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in three matchups.

Jaden Hobbs has averaged 14.8 points over the last five games, scoring in double figures each time and leading the Tigers in scoring in three of those games.

Lincoln is still looking for its first win in 2020, entering the weekend on a 12-game skid. All three Blue Tiger wins have come on their home floor. The Blue Tigers rank 13th in the league with 59.7 points per night while allowing 71.1 points each game. They rank in the top four in the league with an average of 39.2 rebounds each night, 2.1 more than FHSU. Kaloni Pryear leads the team with 16.3 points per night, fifth-most in the MIAA.
