Hays High boys open tourney with big win

The Hays High School boys’ basketball team started its season with new coach Alex Hutchins on Thursday night at the Hays City Shootout. The Indians faced Life Prep Academy, winning by a landslide, 92-42.

The Indians went on a 15-0 run to start the first quarter, holding Life Prep to only five points in the first quarter– eventually leading 29-5 after the first eight minutes. Hays High (1-0) pulled away more in the second quarter, taking a 53-20 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the half, the Indians scored 32 points in the third quarter, making it 85-39 entering the final period. With a whole quarter to go, the Indians battled through the last eight minutes of the game scoring only seven points while the game was well in hand.

The Indians are set to face Olathe West at 8:30 p.m. Friday in a semifinal game at the HHS gym.
