Men’s Soccer Loses in Central Regional Final of NCAA Tournament

The Fort Hays State men’s soccer team finished their season tonight with a 1-0 loss to Lindenwood in the Central Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament. The game took place at Bourke Field on the campus of Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. The defeat comes after the Tigers lost to the Lions in a penalty kick shootout just two weeks ago in the final of the MIAA Tournament.

Neither team came through in the first half of action despite a combined seven shots by both teams. After both teams came out of the locker room, it would only take 6 minutes for Lindenwood’s Ignacio Romero to come away with the lone goal in the match.

The Tigers combined for 17 shots throughout the match with two of them on goal. Diego Cabral had six shots on the night for the Tigers, including one on goal. Ricardo Yeverino finished his final game in a Fort Hays State kit with three shots with one of them on goal.

Despite the loss, Fort Hays State limited the Lions to just nine shots throughout the night with two of them on goal. Fermin Hughes had two saves inside the net for Lindenwood.

Lindenwood moves to 18-0-3 with the win and they are still the only undefeated team in the NCAA tournament. They’ll take on the winner of the Rockhurst/Lewis University match on Sunday with a trip to Evans, Georgia for the semifinals of the tournament at stake.

The Tigers end their season with a 12-5-3 overall mark.
