Storms provide hail, rain in region

Storms that popped up in eastern Ness County and western Rush County provided numerous reports of hail and heavy rain Sunday night.

Hail ranging from the size of quarters to half-dollar size were reported northeast of Bazine, according to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center.

One-inch hail was reported northwest and north of Hays as the storms progressed north.

The largest hail reported came southeast of McCracken in Rush County. There, reports of 2-inch hail were relayed to officials.

Nearly 3 inches of rain was reported east of McCracken as well, and 1.6 inches was reported in southwest Ellis County, according to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network —  better known as CoCoRaHS.

Rain amounts in Hays were generally reported at less than 0.30 of an inch.

Highs today are expected to be in the lower 70s, with a 30-percent chance of rain this evening. Highs Tuesday are expected to be near 80.

There is a slight chance for rain or thunderstorms each day this week.
