FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION DEPARTMENT

The 15th-ranked Fort Hays State men’s soccer team starts off the 2016 campaign with a pair of road games Labor Day weekend in Kansas City, Mo. First the Tigers take on Alderson Broaddus on Saturday (Sept. 3) at 7:00 pm. Following will be a rematch of the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals as the Tigers square off against No. 3 Rockhurst University at 2:30 pm on Monday (Sept. 5). Live stats and live video links will be available for the matches.

The 2015 campaign was special for FHSU as it set a school record for wins going 13-5-2 on the year, along with claiming a second straight NCAA Division II Central Region Championship. To start the 2016 season the Tigers have been slotted first in the MIAA according to the preseason coaches poll.

The 2016 team will have a lot of new faces to go along with sound veterans. Returning to the Tiger lineup this year is All-American and MIAA Player of the Year Mauricio Castorino. Castorino led the Tigers in goals (10), assists (8), and points (28) last season. Also returning to this year’s squad are 2015 All-MIAA selections Maurizio Costa, Killian Gorman, and Michael Yantz.

Alderson Broaddus will open the season against Rockhurst on Thursday (Sept. 1) before facing the Tigers on Saturday. Last season the Battlers went 10-7-3 overall and are projected to finish second in the G-MAC this season.

Rockhurst ended the FHSU’s season in 2015 and advanced to the NCAA Semifinal by means of a shootout. The Hawks finished last season with an overall mark of 18-2-3 and a GLVC Championship. The Hawks are projected to win their conference again this season.
