Tiger Wrestling Announces 2016-17 Signings

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State wrestling has announced its signings for the 2016-17 season. Head coach Chas Thompson signed 15 individuals for the upcoming season, which includes four individuals that won state championships during their prep careers.

The signing class includes Wyatt Alvis, Charlie Boatman, Austin Brandt, Conrad Cole, Brendon Crum, Thomas Elvin, Micah Felton, Matt Mejia, Kyler Mick, Dakota Miller, Efe Osaghae, Brady Packard, Marty Verhaeghe, Braden Visnieski, and Jordan Williams.

Alvis, a native of Arlington, Texas, competed at Martin High School. Projected at 133 pounds at FHSU, Alvis was a three-time district champ and a two-time state placer. He placed twice at Mid-American nationals and was a freestyle state champion. He was the 2015 UIL 6A state champion as a junior.

Boatman is a native of Cedar Park, Texas, and competed at Vista Ridge High School. Projected at 149 pounds at FHSU, Boatman put together a prep record of 106-35. He was a state placer during his junior year and put together an impressive 39 wins in his senior season.

Brandt comes to FHSU from Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas. Projected to wrestle at 174 pounds, he put together a career record of 139-28. He placed second in the state as a senior at 182 pounds, going 43-2, and third as a junior going 34-4. He posted over 25 wins in all four years of his prep career.

Cole is a native of Brush, Colo., and transfers to FHSU from the University of Wyoming. He redshirted the 2015-16 at Wyoming. Cole was a two-time state champion in Colorado for Brush High School. He won the 126-pound weight class as a senior, going 41-2 for the season, and won the 113-pound weight class as a sophomore, going 43-2 that season. He also was state runner-up at 120 pounds as a junior (36-6) and took third as a freshman at 106 pounds (35-5). Altogether, Cole had a career prep record of 155-15. He projects to wrestle at 125 or 133 pounds at FHSU.

Crum is a native of Holly, Colo., where he competed for Holly High School. Projected to wrestle at 133 pounds, he put together a career prep record of 131-25. He finished as the state runner-up at 132 pounds as a senior, going 35-4 for the year. He was fifth as a sophomore at 120 pounds.
