Results for the midterm election are in after months of campaigning in Kansas. Republican incumbent Barbara Wasinger defeated Democratic challenger Edward Hammond in the Kansas House of Representatives District 111 race. It was the lone locally contested race in the county.
Wasigner unofficially tallied 4,983 votes compared to 3,234 for Hammond. Votes will need to be canvassed to become official.
Wasinger took to social media after her win to voice her satisfaction with the results.
“Thank you to House District 111 for again entrusting me with the honor of representing you in the Kansas House,” she said. “Serving as your voice in Topeka is one of the great honors of my life and I’m committed to continuing the fight for the citizens of Ellis County.”
Hammond went live on social media acknowledging Wasinger’s victory and addressing his supporters.
“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for all your love and support of the campaign,” he said.
“I feel rather confident that the three issues that we ran on are issues that now people throughout the city of Hays understand,” he said, referring to special education and as a whole along with the expansion of Medicaid.
Republican incumbent Ken Rahjes ran unopposed in the 110th House District, easily winning re-election.
