The Fort Hays State University Foundation’s fifth annual Giving Day will take place April 8 to assist new students and encourage others to donate. The event will concentrate on general scholarships for potential enrollees and will be open for students, faculty and staff to contribute.
The all-day fundraising mission will include a write-in option to support a particular fund or area of campus.
“We’re pushing that because it’s very instrumental and transformational for students,” said Dane Dreiling, director of the annual Giving Day. “Everybody can be involved. We have different areas of campus that have champions who are championing different causes that are important to them. We also have some businesses in town giving 10% of their sales proceeds towards the Giving Day cause.”
The Foundation’s focus for this year’s event is to give scholarships to students who might not be able to attend Fort Hays or accomplish personal goals while encouraging donors to forge their pathway to a successful education.
“The Robbins Center is the perfect place to do so,” Dreiling said. “They can drop something off, but we also have our online website where they can make a contribution or send a check to PO Box 1060 in Hays. Any of those ways (would help), and those are the best ways to do it.”
Dreiling wants Giving Day to induce a sense of family in the Fort Hays community for donors and students who partake in the event.
“It will help people feel connected to the university and Fort Hays’ goals,” he said. “It will also help people feel connected to the students to make them feel like they’re part of the Tiger family.”
Online contributions can be made at https://fhsugivingday.com/pages/home-2481. Donors can receive Fort Hays merchandise for contributing: Donate $10+ for a sticker, $50+ for a mouse pad and sticker, and $100+ for a deck of cards, mouse pad and sticker.
