EMPORIA, Kan. – Fort Hays State women’s track and field finished eighth in the team standings at the ESU State Farm Relays on Saturday (Apr. 2). Javelin throwers Estefania Lopez and Madison Wolf produced half the team’s points in the meet, while distance runners produced the majority of the rest.
Lopez upped her mark nationally in the javelin with a throw of 166 feet, 7 inches. She entered the week ranked first nationally in the event, but is now third on the national performance list. She is only behind Allison Updike of Azusa Pacific (168 feet, 6 inches) and Bethany Drake of Western Washington (166 feet, 9 inches). She won the event and Madison Wolf finished second, generating 18 team points for FHSU. Wolf had a throw of 160 feet, 10 inches. Both throws were automatic qualifying marks for the second straight week. Lopez and Wolf now rank third and fifth nationally in the event.
Sophie Dalmasso and Chelsea Jackson produced 11 points in the 3000 meters, finishing third and fourth. Dalmasso covered the distance in 10:51.44, while Jackson ran 10:59.13. Shea Bonine and Micki Krzesinski produced five points in the 1500 meters. Bonine finished fifth in 4:46.34, while Krzesinski finished eighth in 4:54.41.
Lexi Riedel scored a team point for FHSU in the 100 meters, finishing eighth in a time of 12.18 seconds. Kelly Wycoff also scored a team point in the 400 meters, finishing eighth in a time of 59.35 seconds.
Fort Hays State scored 36 points as a team. Wichita State won the meet as a team with 166 points.
