The Advanced Technology Student Organization (ATSO) will have its first meeting of the school year this week at 3 pm on Wednesday in Hammond Hall, room 104. ATSO President Ella Edwards will discuss club expectations, service hour requirements, fundraising opportunities, and upcoming speakers.
Sarah Kuhl, technology services manager at Nex-Tech, will present to the group on Sept. 21. John Kirn, manager of service design and portfolio management at All Covered, will present on Oct. 5. Both speaker events will take place at 6 pm in Hammond Hall, room 106.
“I chose these speakers because they are from Hays and the surrounding area and offer a unique perspective on the impact of technology in their careers,” Edwards said. “They will talk to us about their career journeys, day in the life, and any advice they would give current college students.”
The club plans to host two or three speakers per semester and meet as a group once a month. Regular meetings will provide information and opportunities to brainstorm ideas for future speakers and allow club members to express their interests and what experts they want to hear from.
New club member Haley Roth said she would like a future speaker to teach her about concepts related to her studies.
“I hope to see what people do with an information systems degree and how I can benefit from what they have learned,” Roth said. “I want to do data analytics with my business degree, so I thought it was a good opportunity to be involved with that.”
ATSO Vice President Leroy Goodspeed invites students to join the club.
“Anyone who wants to learn more about their field of interest, especially how technology is shaping it, and build connections with professionals already working in that space should join ATSO,” Goodspeed said.
Students interested in joining can find information on TigerLink or by attending upcoming events. Involvement in ATSO does not require members to be within the Department of Computer Science and Informatics; they just need an interest in technology.
