March in Kansas is never dull, and this week will once again be a showcase of that.
Ray Burgert, a meteorologist with the Dodge City National Weather Service, said to watch for “dry and warm patterns despite the cold front blowing through Monday night. That’ll bring things back down to more seasonal temperatures.”
Winds will be a slight concern early in the week, with limited amounts of precipitation following in the late week.
“An upper level storm system is going to bring warm, dry winds which are a high fire risk Monday, Thursday and Friday,” Burgert said. “Rain should follow Friday and Saturday, though nothing severe or beneficial. It’s moving out fast enough that we won’t benefit from the moisture.”
Burgert said the main emphasis this week is fire risk, considering the rapid fluctuation of temperatures that northwest Kansas is going to experience. Whatever rain occurring will be of minimal help to the fire risk.
Hays can look forward to a warm beginning and mild end to this week in temperatures.
Drivers traveling west this weekend for Spring Break should also be cautious of rain and snow storms in the region at the end of the week.
