GOLDEN, Colo. – The Fort Hays State men’s wrestling team split a pair of duals Friday evening (Nov. 15), defeating Otero JC 43-3 before falling to 20th-ranked Colorado School of Mines, 37-4. The Tigers are now 2-1 on the year, while Otero dips to 1-2 and Mines improves to 4-0.

The Tigers won 9 out of the 10 matches in the first dual of the evening, including seven bonus-point wins.
A.B. Stokes got things rolling early for the Tigers, capturing a 11-5 decision at 125 pounds with a takedown and 4 near fall points in the first period. Kevin Honas followed at 133 pounds and notched five takedowns in a 19-4 tech fall.
Corbin White took the mat at 141 pounds and won by forfeit before Otero on the board with a 5-2 decision at 149 pounds. Three take downs and four near fall points in the first period helped Charlie Hutson secure a tech fall at 157 pounds by a score of 19-4.
Next up was Hunter Harris at 165 pounds, who dominated on his way to a fall with 40 seconds remaining in the third period. Connor Padgett took to the mat at 174 pounds, notching seven takedowns to win by tech fall early in the second period.
Matthew Rodriguez battled his way to a major decision at 184 pounds by a score of 11-2 before Ryan Pattersonsecured a fall early in the second period. Riah Ostrander rounded out the dual at 285 pounds with a decision over Griffin LaRue with a final of 4-1.

#20 Colorado School of Mines 37, Fort Hays State 4
The Tigers dropped their first dual of the season in the nightcap, losing to No. 20 Colorado School of Mines by a final of 37-4.
Mines started out the dual red hot, winning the first 8 matches. At 197 pounds eighth-ranked Tereus Henrygot the Tigers on the board by major decision. Henry started the second period on bottom and quickly gained an escape for the first points of the match. The former All-American later secured a third-period takedown and gained four near fall points to the score to 8-0 where the match ended.
Riah Ostrander gave up an early takedown to his opponent but made a late charge by getting an escape to get his first points of the match. Ostrander was unable to take down his opponent in the third period and ended up losing by decision 4-1.
The Tigers will next head to Kearney, Neb. next Saturday (Nov 23) for the Younes Hospitality Open.
