KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State Men’s Golf concluded its spring season with an eighth-place finish at the MIAA Championship, held at Shoal Creek Golf Club from April 15 to 17. The tournament course featured a par-71 layout spanning 7,011 yards. Cole Streck and Cooper Scheck each secured an 11th place finish, posting a score of 12-over par for the tournament. Scheck’s resilient performance earned him All-MIAA status, accumulating 13.5 points for the season.
The Tigers wrapped up the event 64-over par with a total of 916 strokes across three rounds. Their third-round score of 292 stood as the team’s best, tying for fourth in round three totals. Jackson Rader delivered the standout individual performance, finishing round three 1-under par. Rader’s under-par round was one of only six achieved in the tournament. FHSU recorded 25 birdies, 137 pars, and an eagle by Rader. The team’s season stroke average closed at 298.1, marking the first time in 30 years that the season score dipped below 300. Both Scheck and Streck’s impressive top-15 finishes contributed to their standings in the MIAA individual rankings.
Scheck showcased notable performances in the first and third rounds, posting scores of 73, 78, and 74, respectively, to finish the week at 11-over par, tying for sixth in par 3 scores. Streck’s consistency shone in the first two rounds, carding scores of 77 and 76, each punctuated by a birdie. He surged in the third round, tallying four birdies and finishing 1-over par. Streck excelled in par 5 scores, boasting an average stroke count of 4.78, and clinched the most pars on the team, tying for eighth in the tournament with 32 pars.
Rader fired off rounds of 77, 88 and 70 and tied for 34th. Rader had a solid first round, going 6-over while birding one. The third round was Rader’s round, going 1-under par while birding two. The sophomore eagled on hole 13 to put his round total under par and kept if there the rest of the round. Rader secured 29 pars, the second-highest on the team, and also excelled in par 5 scores alongside Streck.
Senior Tanner Copeland posted rounds of 78, 85, and 76, finishing the tournament 26-over par. Copeland’s best showing was in round three, where he carded two birdies and finished 5-over par. He accumulated four birdies across the tournament.
Parker Krob and Jacob George did not receive a finishing score. Krob began the first round, with George stepping in to complete rounds two and three. George managed to birdie three times across two rounds and posted scores of 80 and 79.
Luis Limon of Missouri Southern State secured the individual title after shooting 4-over par, three strokes ahead of the nearest competitor. Limon’s impressive performance included an opening round of 72, followed by scores of 75 and 70 to finish strong. MSSU claimed the team victory, with three Lions finishing in the top 10, including the top two individual finishers. The Lions concluded the tournament 35-over par, with rounds of 292, 309, and 286.
