Brasser wins Midwest Intercollegiate Invite

OLIVAR, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s golf team placed seventh out of 15 teams at the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational this week (March 18-19), with Morgan Brasser earning her fifth-career victory in the process. Brasser finished the week with a cumulative score of 1-over 145 at Silo Ridge Country Club, the site of the 2024 MIAA Championships, which is a par-72, 5,989-yard layout.

Brasser opened the week with a 1-over 73 in round one, carding three birdies to lead by one stroke. The senior turned in an even-par 72 on day two, including three birdies over her last four holes to win by one over second place and by six over a three-way tie for third. Standing on the 36th tee and tied for the lead, Brasser secured the win with a birdie on the par-5, 462-yard sixth hole.

The Andale, Kan. native led the field with seven birdies across the two rounds, two more than any other player in the tournament. She led the field in par-5 scoring at 2-under and in par-4 scoring at even par. This is Brasser’s fifth-career victory and her first of the season. It is her fifth top-five finish in eight tournaments this season. Her second round was Brasser’s 18th career round at-or-under par. She lowered her season stroke average to 74.06 and improved her career stroke average to 76.6.

Shauna Lee turned in scores of 86 and 85 to finish in a tie for 48th place. She tied for the team lead by playing the par-3s in 3-over for the week. The junior recorded one birdie for the tournament.

Hayden York fired rounds of 86 and 88 to place in a tie for 55th. She tied for 10th in the field with three birdies on the week.

Ella Neuhauser posted rounds of 92 and 88 to finish in a tie for 69th place. She also carded one birdie on the week, giving Fort Hays State 12 birdies as a team, fourth-most in the field.

The Tigers turned in rounds of 337 and 333 to finish in seventh place, better than eight teams in the field. Central Missouri won the team title by 23 strokes, finishing first after rounds of 307 and 297 to finish at 28-over.

The Tigers will next compete at the Holiday Inn Express Women’s Spring Invitational at St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Mo. March 25-26, where Brasser is a two-time champion.
