Fort Hays State Athletics announced on Friday (Dec. 1) that Gerry Cleary resigned from his position of head men’s soccer coach. Cleary had an overall record of 48-27-13 in five seasons guiding the Tigers.

Cleary coached the program to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in seasons where the Tigers won a conference regular season title (2019) and a conference tournament title (2021). He guided the Tigers to a national quarterfinal appearance in 2021. In 16 years as a collegiate soccer coach, he owns an overall record of 225-69-27.

Prior to his time at FHSU, Cleary was a head coach at NAIA affiliate Martin Methodist University (now known as University of Tennessee Southern) where he guided programs to three national titles (two women’s and one men’s). He was then an assistant coach for four years at California State University-Bakersfield before coming to Hays.

A search for the next head men’s soccer coach at Fort Hays State University is currently in progress.
