Men’s golf competes at Super Regional Preview

EDMOND, Okla. – The Fort Hays State men’s golf team finished sixteenth at the Super Regional Preview on Tuesday (Oct. 17). The field featured 21 teams and 105 individual golfers. The tournament was hosted by Southern Nazarene University at the Kickingbird Golf Club. The course was a par-70 that totaled 6,944 yards.

As a team Fort Hays State shot round scores of 296, 296, and 297. The team recorded 18 birdies in the opening round, each player contributing at least two.

The Tigers were led by Tanner Copeland and Cooper Scheck who both tied for 42nd place after shooting 8-over par. Both Copeland and Scheck also shot 3-over par in their final round. Copeland came out of the first 18 holes with a 71, while Scheck had his best round in round two with a 72. The two players combined for 22 birdies on the tournament.

Cole Streck finished in a tie for 68th place for the Tigers. His best round score was in the second round where Streck shot a 71. In that round Streck had four birdies, three of which were on the back nine. Jackson Raderfinished in a tie for 91st place with round scores of 77, 80, and 73. Rader did record an eagle in the third round on a 586-yard par 5 hole. Parker Krob finished in 103rd place after shooting a 239

Sam Tandy of Harding University won the individual title with an 11-under par score. Tandy shot in the 60’s in all three rounds of competition. Arkansas Tech University took home the team title, climbing two spots on the leaderboard on the final day of play. Tech shot a 277 in round two and finished the tournament with the best par-3 scoring average with a 2.95.

The Tiger golf team will compete again next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 23-24) for the Tulsa Cup hosted by Rogers State.
