Baseball lands three on all-MIAA list

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Fort Hays State baseball team placed three individuals on the 2023 MIAA All-MIAA teams, announced Thursday (May 4) by the league office. Emile Boies was honored as a second team All-MIAA utility player, while Ed Scott and Isaiah Ural were both listed as honorable mention selections in the outfield.

Boies was a true utilityman for the Tigers this season, starting at least five games at four different positions while coming out of the bullpen to pitch nine times. The Levis, Quebec, Canada native played and started in 44 games during his first season as a Tiger, leading the team with a slugging percentage of .638 thanks to 14 doubles, 10 home runs and one triple. He batted .350 with an on-base percentage of .454 while scoring 40 runs and driving in 49. Boies picked up a team-best five hits in a single game in a victory against Northwest Missouri State on April 21.

On the mound Boies led the team with three saves while pacing the Tigers with an ERA of 5.19 and a batting average against of .256. He struck out 13 batters in 8.2 innings of relief, averaging 13.5 K/9. He is the first Tiger to achieve second-team status since Alex Weiss in 2018.

Scott was one of two players in the lineup to start all 50 games for the Tigers, with the senior patrolling right field in each contest this season. Wrapping up his third season at Fort Hays State, Scott led the Tigers with an on-base percentage of .474. He also led the squad in runs (54), doubles (16), walks (35), hit-by-pitches (10) and stolen bases (11) while adding nine home runs and three triples. He ranks in the top 10 in the MIAA in several categories, including on-base percentage, runs, doubles, triples and walks. The Manhattan, Kan. native tallied five outfield assists on the year and totaled 95 putouts.

Ural started 49 games in center field in his first season at FHSU, leading the team with 69 hits and a batting average of .375. He legged out five triples on the year, tied for first in the MIAA this season and are tied for fifth-most in a season all-time at FHSU. The Albuquerque, N.M. native also ranks in the top 10 in the conference in batting average, hits, doubles and sacrifice bunts. Ural tied for the team lead with 16 doubles, adding five home runs, 51 runs, 46 RBI and five steals. He totaled 103 putouts, three outfield assists and just one error for a fielding percentage of .991.
