By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Fort Hays State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams wrapped up the regular season with two school records, three first-place finishes and nine NCAA Division II national qualifying marks on Friday (Feb. 17) at the Nebraska Tune-Up.

Hayden Albright broke a 17-year-old record in the 400m dash, placing second overall and first amongst DII competition with a time of 47.81. The national-qualifying time is 0.16 seconds faster than the previous Zach Brown in 2006. Albright also ran a national qualifying time in the 60m dash, placing fourth overall and first against DII athletes with a time of 6.82.

Mattie Rossi shattered an 11-year-old school record in the 600m run, finishing first overall with a time of 1:33.60 after three trips around the track. The time was more than 2.5 seconds faster than the previous mark set in 2012 by Sam Szczublewski. Rossi picked up two other top-10 finishes, finishing fifth in the 60m hurdles in 8.93 and placing sixth in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5-2.25.

Albright was not the only Tiger to rake in multiple national qualifying performances on the day, with Philip Landrumand Lyric Holman both doing so in the 60m dash and the 200m dash. Landrum was fourth overall and first amongst DII athletes in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 21.62. He also ran the 60m dash in 6.86, good for fifth place.

Holman was the top DII finisher and third overall in the 60m dash, completing the sprint in 7.59. She later finished fourth overall and second against DII competition with a time of 24.85 in the 200m dash.

Nolan Churchman finished just a few strides behind Albright in the 400m dash, completing the third-fastest time in FHSU’s DII era with a national-qualifying mark of 48.47.

The Tiger men took home a pair of titles in field events, including Ryan Stanley in the pole vault and Jonah Remsberg in the long jump. Stanley surpassed 17 feet in an event for the 10th time overall and the sixth time indoors, taking home first place after safely clearing the bar at 17-1.5. Remsberg led the field in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 23-3.25, good for 10th on the FHSU DII era performance chart.

Jacob Clark also surpassed the national qualifying mark in the pole vault, finishing sixth with a top clearance of 16-7.5. Kolgan Ohl was third in the weight throw with a top heave of 58-3.75, just .25 inches off his PR that ranks sixth-best in FHSU’s DII history.

Rossi had a pair of teammates join her in the top five in the 600m dash, with Taylor Savolt (1:36.58) and Chloe Stanley(1:38.90) finishing third and fourth, respectively. Savolt’s time ranks fourth-best at FHSU during the DII era, while Stanley is eighth on the DII era chart.

Patrisha Doll finished ninth in the weight throw with a top heave of 51-3.75, good for seventh-best at FHSU during the DII era.

Next up for the Tigers is another trip to Pittsburg, Kan., this time for the 2023 MIAA Indoor Championships next Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 23-25).
