WICHITA, Kan. – The 15th-ranked Fort Hays State men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Newman in Wichita on Saturday (Oct. 8). The Jets managed to score early in the second half and the Tigers were unable to find the equalizer as they dropped their first conference match of the season. FHSU is now 7-3-3, 5-1-1 GAC/MIAA, while Newman picked up their first win of the season and improved to 1-10-1, 1-5 GAC/MIAA.

Defense played a strong role in the first half with only three total shots were allowed in the period. In the second half, the Jets took the lead early as a cross from Felix Tellez Ramirez found Carlos Bellosta Manchon who swept the ball into the net.

The Tigers outshot the Jets 6-4 in the match but the Jets put one more shot on target than the Tigers, 3-2. FHSU keeper Kieran Brown and NU keeper Juan Carlos Cordova each secured a pair of saves.

The Tigers will return to action next week as they travel to Arkansas to face Ouachita Baptist on Thursday (Oct. 13) and Harding on Saturday (Oct. 15).
