Brasser 15th after first round at regionals

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – After sitting through a pair of rain delays, Fort Hays State’s Morgan Brasser opened competition at the 2022 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships with a score of 4-over 76 in the first round on Monday (May 2). The sophomore is currently tied for 15th in the field of 51 golfers with 36 holes yet to play at the Park Course at Hot Springs Country Club, a par-72, 5,932-yard layout.

Playing in her second regional championship, Brasser got off to a bit of a slow start in the opening round after waiting through a lengthy rain delay in the morning. The Andale, Kan. native played the first 10 holes in 6-over before carding a trio of birdies down the stretch to get back to 4-over on the day.

Her three birdies are tied for fourth-most in the field. She played the four par-3s on the course in even par on the day, also fourth-best in the tournament. Brasser beat the stroke average over the first 18 holes of the championship by 2.2 strokes.

A pair of MIAA opponents are tied for first, with Susana Olivares of UCO and Allycia Gan of MWSU both firing rounds of 2-under 70 on Monday. Rogers State leads the team race with a first round total of 8-over 296.

Nine teams and six The top three teams and the top two individuals not on those teams will move on to the National Championship May 10-14 at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Ga.

Brasser’s second round is slated to begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday (May 3) off hole No. 1.
