Tennis drops home contest to Lopers

Fort Hays State fell to Nebraska-Kearney by a score of 7-0 in conference action on Saturday (Apr. 2) at the FHSU Tennis Courts. The Tigers are now 6-6 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA, while the Lopers moved to 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA.

The Lopers swept doubles play and won all of the singles matches in straight sets. The No. 3 team of Kylie Aufdengarten and Aliyah Frederick won the most games within their doubles match, falling 6-3.

In singles action, Frederick took six games over two sets, falling 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 6 position. Irina Alfonso took five games within the No. 1 match, falling 6-3, 6-2, and Nicole Heyn won four games within the No. 2 match with scores of 6-1 and 6-3. Fiorella Mendez won three games at the No. 4 position, falling 6-2, 6-1. Maria Paz Diaz (No. 3) and Aufdengarten (No. 5) each took a game within their matches.

Hope Lubbers and Heidi Lubbers played an exhibition doubles match and fell 6-1. Gracen Friess fell 8-1 in an exhibition singles match, as did Heidi Lubbers 8-4.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday at McPherson College at 3 pm before return to conference action next weekend at home against Newman and Emporia State.
