St. Cloud State became the only non-MIAA squad to win in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament on Friday night in Hays.
The Huskies improved to 24-4 overall with a 69-67 overtime victory over No. 4 seed Missouri Southern.
St. Cloud State will play Fort Hays in the 7:30 p.m. semifinal Saturday at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The two teams played Nov. 19 in Hays, with FHSU winning 58-51.
The Huskies’ win capped a day of upsets for higher-seeded teams, as FHSU was the only higher-seeded team to win in the opening round.
Missouri Southern (24-7) led 16-11 after the first quarter and 26-15 at the break.
St. Cloud State used a 19-16 advantage in the third quarter to take a slim lead entering the final period of regulation.
Lacy Stokes, who hit a bank shot as the buzzer sounded in regulation but it was waved off for not enough time on the clock at 0.02 seconds, scored 20 points and had eight assists for the Lions. Amaya Johns added 20 points as well.
Brehna Evans led St. Cloud State with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Tori Wortz and Nikki Kilboten both finished with 13.
