Tiger track has solid first day at nationals

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field team racked up six second team All-America honors on day one of the 2022 NCAA DII Indoor Championships Friday (March 11).

Ethan Lang moved on to the finals of the 800m run after finishing second in his heat with a time of 1:51.62, ninth overall in the field.

Nolan Churchman sits in eighth in the heptathlon through four events with 3,002 points. He racked up a high of 897 points in the 60m dash when he crossed the line in 6.96.

Lyric Holman picked up a pair of second team All-America honors after placing 10th in the 60m prelims and 11th in the 200m prelims. The junior posted a time of 7.51 in the 60m race before completing the 200m lap in 24.53.

Philip Landrum also earned second team All-America in both sprints after finishing ninth in the 60m prelims with a time of 6.80 and 11th in the 200m race with a time of 21.56.

Mattie Rossi grabbed second team All-America honors with a 12th-place finish in the prelims of the 60m hurdles after crossing the line in 8.62. Alexandra Hart rounded out the second team All-America recipients with a ninth-place finish in the high jump after clearing the 5-7 bar on her second attempt.

Lang and Churchman will be joined by five other Tigers in competition on Saturday, with Rossi entered in the pentathlon, Taylor Savolt and Xavier Robinson both competing in the triple jump and Ryan Stanley and Jacob Clark both competing in the pole vault.
