By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION

WICHITA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field teams saw another school record broken Saturday (Feb. 5) at the Herm Wilson Invitational, hosted by Wichita State University. The Tigers totaled eight provisionals on the day in addition to 12 event victories.

Ryan Stanley won the pole vault with a school-record clearance of 17-1.75, one inch over his previous mark set earlier this season. Jacob Clark was second in the pole vault after soaring over the bar at 16-2, moving up one spot to ninth on the FHSU DII era performance chart. Mark Faber was third with a clearance of 15-8.25. All three were good for NCAA DII provisional qualifying marks.

Two other Tigers placed second while posting a provisional mark, with Philip Landrum running a top time of 6.82 in the 60m dash finals. Jack Pakkebier moved up one spot after day one to finish second in the heptathlon with a seven-event total of 4,927 points, good for an NCAA DII provisional mark. He is now third on the FHSU DII era performance chart.

Three Tiger women also hit provisional marks, with Lyric Holman once again winning the 60m dash, this week with a time of 7.57. Mattie Rossi won the 60m hurdles with a provisional time of 8.66, while Alexandra Hart remained undefeated in the high jump thanks to a clearance of the 5-7 bar.

The Tiger men won several mid-distance races, including the 400m dash, 600m run, 1,000m run and the mile run. Ethan Lang placed first in the 600m run with a time of 1:20.16, second-best on the FHSU DII era performance chart. Kaden Wren placed second behind Lang in 1:23.02, good for 10th on the performance chart.

Aaron Mangan won the 1,000m run after completing the race in 2:30.71, good for fourth on the FHSU DII era performance chart. Trever Medina followed close behind, crossing the line in 2:30.78 to place second and move into fifth on the FHSU performance chart.

Nolan Churchman picked up a victory in the 400m dash with a time of 51.03, while Robbie Schmidt was victorious in the mile run after crossing the line in 4:17.56.

The FHSU women won three mid-distance races, including Halle Johnson in the 1,000m run after crossing the line in 3:04.72, good for fifth on the DII era performance chart. Hannah Wiebe placed first in the 600m run with a time of 1:40.83, while Abigail Stewart was first across the line in the mile run with a time of 5:15.52.

The final Tiger victory came in the last event of the day, with Pakkebier, Wren, Churchman and Lang combining to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:22.78.

Rossi also placed second in the 400m dash with a career-best 58.65, good for fourth on the DII era performance chart at FHSU.

The Tigers will return to action next weekend (Feb. 11-12) at a pair of events, including the Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan. and the Ichabod Invite in Topeka, Kan.
