FHSU baseball returns to the diamond this weekend

With the Fort Hays Baseball season starting on Feb. 4th, the team will head to Golden, Colo. to compete against Colorado School of Mines. With some senior returners such as Grant Schmidt, who was ninth-best in the MIAA in home runs a season ago, and Jacob Ensz, a left-handed pitcher, the Tigers hope to keep making improvements this season.

With the team having struggles in years past, the Tigers hope to show better results this upcoming season.

“The players had a bad taste in their mouth after last year, and they are ready to move on and show what the program can really do,” Head Coach Jerod Goodale said.

According to Goodale, the key to success this year for the Tigers will be consistency and playing as a team.

A big focus for the Tigers this season according to junior outfielder, Jaedyn Traut is playing for one another, which is a big part of the game.

“Even though it is an individual sport stats-wise, if we play as a team I think that’ll help us go a long way this year,” Traut said.

Last season the Fort Hays baseball team went 11-22 in the MIAA, but with the help of returning 5th-year seniors, the team looks forward to playing some tough teams such as Central Missouri, as well as Northwest Missouri State and improving overall as a team.
