After dropping its first game of the season Saturday, the Fort Hays State women’s basketball team dipped to fifth in this week’s WBCA Division II Coaches Poll and to 14th in the latest D2SIDA Media Poll, both released Tuesday (Dec. 14).
The Tigers (7-1, 2-1 MIAA) still picked up one first-place vote in the coaches poll and remain the top-ranked MIAA team in the poll. FHSU is tied with Alaska Anchorage in the fifth spot with 433 points, 102 behind top-ranked Lubbock Christian. Nebraska-Kearney is the only other conference school recognized in the poll, coming in 12th this week.
Fort Hays State is one of three MIAA programs listed in the D2SIDA Media Poll, with UNK slotted seventh and Missouri Western, the lone undefeated team in the league at 8-0, just in front of the Tigers in 13th. Alaska Anchorage tops the media poll for the fourth week in a row.
The Tigers are 15-4 all-time when ranked fifth in the DII coaches poll. FHSU has played more games while ranked fifth than any other spot in the top 25. The Tigers last played as the fifth-ranked team in the country during the final week of the 2020-21 regular season and the 2021 MIAA Championship Tournament. FHSU posted a 4-1 record as the fifth-ranked team last season.
Fort Hays State wraps up the semester with three home games in four days later this week, beginning with a Friday contest (Dec. 17) against Central Oklahoma beginning at 5:30 p.m.
