FHSU drops final home match; preps for GAC tournament

BY CAYDEN SANDERS

The Fort Hays State Tiger soccer team needed one win to be crowned the GAC regular-season champions and to host the conference tournament in Hays next week. However, FHSU gave up one goal to lose 1-0 on Saturday to Southern Nazarene.

“We didn’t put the ball in the back of the net and we let one late defensive mistake happen, and we lost the game. There were multiple other miscues today but those were just the big ones that cost us.” Head Coach Gerry Cleary said.

Fort Hays had the opportunity to score the entire game against SNU, as the Tigers put up 12 shots the entire game and had multiple open looks from Blake Arndt’s foot that could never find the back of the net.

Southern Nazarene only shot seven times, but a season-changing experience from Daniel Trojman put the Crimson Storm on top in the 78th minute.

“We plan to take tomorrow off and get back to it on Monday, we know what we need to work on and get ready for the tournament,” Cleary said.

Fort Hays moves to 11-5-2 on the season, and will travel to Bethany Oklahoma this next week to take on Rogers State for the tournament semi-final.
