ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer shutout Ouachita Baptist 6-0 on Thursday (Oct. 28). FHSU notched three goals in the first half and three more in the second. The Tigers set a school record for the fastest two consecutive goals, their first two occurring in 32 seconds compared to the old record of 46 seconds. FHSU’s three consecutive first-half goals ranks second fastest in NCAA Division II history at 1:24, just eight seconds shy of the record 1:16. FHSU improved to 9-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the GAC, while OBU fell to 2-10-2 overall and 2-7-1 in conference play.
The Tigers were led by Blake Arndt who scored one goal in each half. Arndt netted the first goal of the match from the left side of the box in the 21st minute. The next goal came in record setting fashion 32 seconds later as Antonio De la Torre received a pass from Taisei Arima in the 22nd minute and tapped it in for a score. Jonathan Facio kept the quick scoring trend going 52 seconds later with a header goal in the 23rd minute off a rebounded shot of Arima’s that hit the cross bar.
After halftime, Blake Arndt netted his second goal of the contest by heading in a cross from Arima. Less than a minute after, Viktor Robertsson found the net as well off of a cross from Victor Espinoza Delgado extending the FHSU lead to 5-0. The final goal of the contest went to Arima as he chipped in a goal after gathering a long pass from Chris Rios-Cruz.
FHSU edged OBU in shots 20-7 and put 11 on target. The Tiger defense recorded their fourth shutout this season behind three saves from Kieran Brown.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday looking to avenge their loss earlier this season to Harding. Kickoff against the Bisons in Searcy is at 1 pm.
