Jets top Tiger tennis

WICHITA, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis fell by a score of 6-1 to Newman University on Saturday (Apr. 24). Kylie Aufdengarten claimed her second-straight singles match in conference play to generate the lone team point for the Tigers.

The Tigers as a whole won seven games in doubles action. The No. 1 team of Stefany Stemmer and Sydney McAdoo played their opponent tight, falling 6-4, while the No. 2 and No. 3 teams fell 6-2 and 6-1 respectively. Newman led 1-0 after doubles play.

Aufdengarten picked up a point for the Tigers at the No. 6 singles position, blazing through her opponent Lauren Esfeld 6-0 and 6-1. Aliyah Frederick nearly forced a third set in the No. 5 singles match, going to a tiebreak in the second set. But, Mirella Cavalcanti of Newman prevailed in the tiebreak by three points. In the No. 2 singles match, Fiorella Mendez won three games in each of the sets contested in her match.
