KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State senior Whitney Randall has been named this week’s MIAA women’s basketball athlete of the week, announced Monday (March 1) by the league office.

Randall scored a career-high 29 points in Thursday’s win at Missouri Western, helping the Tigers lock up the regular season MIAA title with a 77-69 victory. The senior knocked down 9-of-16 from the floor (56.3 percent), 2-of-4 from behind the arc (50 percent) and 9-of-12 from the charity stripe (75 percent) while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five assists in the win over the Griffons. Randall had already tallied a career-best 27 points before the end of the third quarter.

She then added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds in Saturday’s 70-47 win at Northwest Missouri State. The Alva, Okla. native averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the week.

This is the second weekly honor for a Tiger player this season after Jaden Hobbs was named athlete of the week in December.

Randall finished the regular season with 996 career points, just four points shy of becoming the 22nd 1,000-point scorer in FHSU history. She will look to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau at home on Wednesday (March 3) when the Tigers host Missouri Southern in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 MIAA Championship Tournament, presented by Citizens Bank beginning at 6 p.m.
