Women’s track tunes up for conference

By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Fort Hays State women’s track and field team wrapped up its indoor regular season Friday (Feb. 19) at the UNK Loper Tune-Up with two provisional marks and three event victories.

Lyric Holman improved her provisional mark in the 60m dash, taking home first place with a personal-best time of 7.63. Holman now ranks first in the MIAA in the 60m dash this season and sits in 15th on the national performance chart. After shaving .02 off her previous PR, junior is now just two-hundredths of a second shy of the program record set by Samantha Woodburn in 2014.

Summer Kragel posted FHSU’s second provisional mark of the day, winning the high jump competition after clearing a season-best 5-5.75.

Emily Salmans finished first in the 600y run after posting a personal-best time of 1:27.42. Due to the size of the track, the converted mark of 1:25.83 is currently fifth on the MIAA performance chart.

The Tigers also had four second-place finishes on the day, including Chloe Stanley in the 200m dash with a time of 27.69, Faith Little in the 1000m run with a time of 3:03.17, Taylor Linn in the pole vault after clearing the 11-6.25 bar and Paris Wolf in the triple jump with a leap of 35-9.25.

Fort Hays State will return to action next week with the 2021 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. Traditionally a three-day meet, this year’s conference championships will take place across two days Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 27-28). Schedule link
