Women’s track competes in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State women’s track and field team recorded eight top-three finishes and captured one event win at the Herm Wilson Invitational hosted by Wichita State on Friday (Feb. 5).

Lyric Holman won the 60m dash with a time of 7.67, just one-hundredth of a second shy of the NCAA Division II provisional mark. Her season-best time of 7.65 currently ranks ninth on the national performance chart. The junior later placed fourth in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 25.61.

Mattie Rossi placed third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.93 after running a personal-best 8.90 in the prelims.

Fort Hays State picked up a pair of third-place finishes in the mid-distance races, with Emily Salmans (2:16.57) and Abigail Stewart (5:17.15) placing third in the 800m run and the mile run, respectively.

The Tigers had a trio of third-place finishes in the field events, including Summer Kragel in the high jump (5-4.25), Taylor Savolt in the triple jump (37-1) and Julia Wagner in the weight throw (52-6.5).

The 4x400m relay team of Holman, Salmans, Savolt and Rossi combined to finish third with a time of 3:56.13.

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Tigers will return to action next Saturday (Feb. 13) at the Ichabod Invitational in Topeka, Kan. Field events are slated to begin at 11 a.m. with running events to follow at noon.
