Track and field adds provisional at Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field team recorded one provisional performance and four top-three finishes at the Washburn Open Friday evening (Jan. 29).

Fort Hays State captured first place in the men’s distance medley relay, with the team of Joshua Doria, Kaden Wren, Ethan Lang and Grant Bradley combining for an NCAA Division II provisional time of 10:01.41. The Tigers were in third after the first two splits before jumping to first by the third leg and holding on for a win by less than three-tenths of one second over West Texas A&M.

Brooke Navarro placed second in the 5,000m run after crossing the line in a personal-best 17:59.94. Abigail Stewart finished sixth in the race, also posting a personal best after crossing the line in 18:18.13.

Robbie Schmidt finished third in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:07.65.

The women’s distance medley relay team of Faith Little, Mattie Rossi, Emily Salmans and Gretchen Kuffel finished third with a time of 12:19.36.

Before running in the DMR, Rossi opened the day placing seventh in the long jump after clearing a distance of 17-7.00.

The Tigers will return to action Saturday at the UNK Charlie Foster Classic in Kearney, Neb. beginning at 11 a.m.
