Indoor track season opens Saturday at UNK

The Fort Hays State men’s and women’s track and field teams will be third and fourth teams to return to official outside competition during the 2020-21 season Saturday (Dec. 12) when the Tigers compete in the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic inside Cushing Coliseum in Kearney, Neb. Field events are set to begin at noon with the weight throw, pole vault and long jump while action on the track will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The meet will be scored as a triangular, pitting Fort Hays State against host Nebraska-Kearney and Southwest Baptist Two individuals can score per team in each event. Scoring will be 7-5-4-3-2-1.

Sixty FHSU student-athletes are slated to make their season debut on Saturday, including 30 from the men’s squad and 30 from the women’s squad. Dr. Jason McCullough is opening his fourth season as head coach of the track and field teams.

After the cancelation of 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships as well as the 2020 outdoor track and field season, this will be the first competition for the Tigers since the conclusion of the 2020 MIAA Indoor Championships on March 1, 286 days ago.
