TMP girls beat HHS in final Shootout game

The Hays High School girls’ basketball team, coming off two tough losses to open the season, were set to face hometown rival TMP in the final round of the Hays City Shootout on Saturday night.

But the rival Monarchs proved to be too much as TMP rolled to a 44-31 victory.

Hays High (0-3) came out with a small lead against TMP (2-1) early in the opening quarter.

A strong defensive effort helped Hays High lead 10-8 after the first quarter.

TMP got a bit of momentum in the second quarter, taking a two-point lead. The Indians went back and forth with the Monarchs, not letting the lead grow to more than two the entire quarter, eventually trailing 19-18 at halftime.

TMP came out of the locker room with a 10-2 run, providing the Monarchs with a cushion. TMP eventually led 32-23 entering the final quarter.

Hays High struggled in the fourth quarter while trying to create some offense, and TMP outscored the Indians 12-8 to take second in the tournament.

The Indians will face Hoisington on Dec. 15t

Life Prep 46, Hays High 30

Coming off a hard loss in the first round of the Shootout, the Indians were looking for a win over Life Prep Academy but ultimately struggled in a 46-30 loss.

Hays High (0-2) led 14-11 after the first quarter.

Leading the entire second quarter, the Indians went into the locker room with a 23-19 advantage.

But Hays High struggled the first minutes of the third quarter, giving Life Prep the early. HHS trailed 27-23 before rallying to tie the game at 27-all entering the fourth quarter.

But the Fire dominated the final period en route to the 16-point win.
