Track and field athletes pick up academic honors

NEW ORLEANS – The Fort Hays State men’s and women’s track and field programs both earned the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award for the fourth year in a row, announced Thursday (July 16) by the organization. The Tigers were also well represented on the individuals list, with seven student-athletes earning All-Academic Individual honors.

Student-athletes earning the All-Academic award include Peri Lange, Layne Needham, Lindsay Shupe, Lucas Broxterman, Mark Faber, Xavier Robinson and Ryan Stanley.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic award, student-athletes must compile a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and reach a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either indoor or outdoor seasons.

Lucas Broxterman and Ryan Stanley both earned the distinction for a second time, with Stanley being listed for the second year in a row and Broxterman adding to his honor in 2018.

Vaulters Mark Faber and Ryan Stanley were two of just 15 individuals on the men’s side to earn the All-Academic award with a perfect 4.00 GPA. The Tigers were one of just five men’s squads with multiple perfect GPAs.

To earn the team academic distinction, a program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Tiger women amassed a 3.567 GPA, third-best among MIAA programs, while Tiger men accumulated a 3.306 GPA to earn the honor, second-best among league rivals. A total of 263 NCAA DII programs earned All-Academic Team status in 2019-20, including 149 women’s teams and 114 men’s programs.
