Nelson named MIAA Pitcher of Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced its Mammoth Turf Softball Athletes of the Week on Wednesday (Mar. 4). Fort Hays State senior Michaelanne Nelson is Pitcher of the Week following her performance at the Washburn Invitational last weekend in Topeka, Kansas.

Nelson threw three consecutive complete game shutouts in starts for FHSU last weekend, while making one relief appearance. She posted a 0.00 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched for the week, while striking out 28 batters for an 8.6 strikeouts per 7 innings ratio. She allowed just 3.4 hits per 7 innings, a .136 opponent batting average, and had a weekly WHIP average of 0.75.

Nelson had a perfect game going through 5.1 innings against Missouri-St. Louis before allowing a hit in a 3-0 shutout. She also blanked Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota-Crookston in 4-0 and 3-0 wins respectively. She lowered her season ERA down to 1.71 and now has four shutouts overall for the season, which includes a no-hitter.

This is the first time Nelson received Pitcher of the Week recognition from the MIAA.

Nelson also garnered recognition for her performance nationally as one of the top weekly performances by the NFCA. This is the second time this year she has earned recognition on the list from the NFCA. See Release
