On Thursday, February 13, Tiger Career Services had an activity at Forsyth Library South Study Area. This activity was about providing guidance and instruction to help participants modify their resume and cover letter. There were many students who participated in this activity. Some of them who have part-time jobs also came to participate in this activity, because changes to resumes and cover letters can help them find better jobs in the future. Some of them want to apply for on-campus jobs on Workday.

“This is a good opportunity for us to learn where our resume and cover letter shortage is. Some instruction and guidance in the handbook can help them make our resume look better than before,” one participant said.

“The staff helped me modify the structure and wording in my resume,” another participant said.

One of the staff gave offered some advice about how to edit resumes and make them better than before. She mentioned the structure is significant. A good structure can make HR pay attention to you. The correct form of resumes and cover letters can show you are professional and show your experience. On the other hand, it is helpful for HR to extract useful information which they really need.

Otherwise, there is also some information in their handbook. In your resume and cover letter, in addition to showing your experience, communicating your interest is also essential. Identify the interest in your desired position. Focus on your skills, knowledge, and experience and explain how you can use some of them to contribute to your desired position. Meanwhile, showing how deep your understanding of the career field, position, and the organization can also let HR have a good first impression of you.

Regardless of the professional format of the resume, what you experience and learn in your life is crucial. To make your resume look more attractive, go and enrich your life!
