The Fort Hays State University Men’s Basketball team was back at Gross Memorial Coliseum Monday evening. The team was fighting for a win against Kansas Wesleyan after their back-to-back losses on the road last week. The Tigers won, 90-49.

After their two losses against Missouri Western (63-79) on January 23rd and Northwestern Missouri State (57-83) on January 25th, the Tigers were ready to be back in action at GMC against the 13-8 Coyotes.

“We have nine games left in the MIAA and coach was saying we have an opportunity to win all of those games,” Junior forward Jaded Vitztum said. “We have a favorable schedule; we just have to keep working hard and start playing better defense.”

Vitztum led all scorers with 19 points.

Fort Hays and Kansas Wesleyan started out slow, but the Tigers finally pumped up with a pair of three-pointers from Calvin Harrington and Jared Vitztum. The Coyotes fell behind and the Tigers ended the first half on top 38-15.

“We definitely needed this game; we have been on a losing streak, so it was good to get this win and get everybody on the court with a win,” Vitztum said.

FHSU continued their lead throughout the second half with Jake Hutchings adding 11 points and Perry Carroll with eight points.

“We will have some competition coming up and at this point, we have an opportunity to win,” Coach Mark Johnson said. “The guys have to step up and be aggressive on offense and defense if they want to keep playing ball.”

The Tigers will face off against Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, February 1st back in Gross Memorial Coliseum at 4 p.m.
