By JAYCEE DALE

The Hays High School girls’ basketball team started back up after the winter break last week. HHS opened with a game against the Pratt Greenbacks on Tuesday, losing a close one.

The team’s second game of the week was against the Liberal Redskins, who have been WAC champs the last two years, and the Redskins proved they are solid once again this season with a 53-29 win.

The Indians started off struggling on offense in Saturday’s game against Liberal, scoring only four points in the first quarter while trailing 15-4.

The Indians battled the second quarter but weren’t able to create an offense, trailing 34-8 at halftime.

The Indians only scored nine points in the third quarter as Liberal raced out to a 46-17 lead entering the final period.

Tasiah Nunnery led the Indians with 11 points, and Aleyia Ruder followed with nine.

Hays High will host WAC rival Great Bend on Tuesday.
