Tigers return to GMC with win over Bethel

BY MICAH REINKE

After the game on December 15th against Kansas Wesleyan was postponed and rescheduled to January 27th, Fort Hays State University Men’s Basketball looked to regain their winning record on Tuesday night as they battled against Bethel College out of North Newton, Kansas. The Tigers won, 86-59.

Coming off back-to-back away losses vs the University of Nebraska at Kearney (60-74) on December 3rd and Emporia State (66-69) on December 7th, FHSU was fired up to get back on their home court and face the 12-3 Threshers.

FHSU jumped out to an early 15-4 lead in the first half as Jake Hutchings hit a pair of 3 pointers. Bethel quickly answered back but they stayed behind as the first half ended with FHSU on top 39-24.

Fort Hays accelerated their lead in the second half as Jared Vitztum added 13 points, totaling 16 for the game and Devin Davis added 12 second-half points to the Tiger lead.

Jake Hutchings’ total of 22 points along with Jared Vitztum’s 16 helped push FHSU to get the win and end their 2-game losing streak.

They look forward to their next opponent, Avila University right back here at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays on Friday, December 20th at 7:00 p.m. Avila has a record of 7-7 and will be hoping to grab their own winning record this Friday evening so the Tigers will need to be ready to play tough.
