9 represent FHSU volleyball on academic list

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nine student-athletes from the Fort Hays State volleyball team were listed on the 2019 MIAA Academic Honor Roll, released Friday (Dec. 6) by the league office. Four individuals earned special recognition, with Tatum Bartels and Isabelle Reynolds picking up the Scholar-Athlete Award and Bartels, Katie Darnell and Kayla Vitztum all earning the Academic Excellence Awa rd.

By carrying a perfect 4.00 GPA and earning All-MIAA honors for her performance in 2019, Bartels is one of just eight student-athletes in the league to earn both distinguished awards.

Bartels and Reynolds are two of 38 student-athletes in the league to earn the Scholar-Athlete Award, while Bartels, Darnell and Vitztum gave Fort Hays State three of the 13 Academic Excellence Award winners this year.

Every FHSU volleyball student-athlete eligible for the honor roll earned the recognition this year. Transfers and true freshman are recognized at the conclusion of the school year, after they meet the two terms of attendance requirement.

To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

To qualify as a Scholar-Athlete an individual must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.50 at the certifying member institution. They must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. If competing in a championship sport of the MIAA, the student-athlete must earn All-MIAA honors.

An MIAA Academic Excellence Award recipient must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 4.00 or better at the certifying member institution. The honoree also must have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
