12th Year of Hays Community Thanksgiving Feast

BY LAURA KRUG

During the Thanksgiving holiday, some families are unable to enjoy the company of relatives or friends due to travel or other circumstances. Two groups in Hays are hoping to provide an environment of generosity and hospitality for everyone over the holiday. Fort Hays students are welcome to attend.

The Ellis County Ministerial Alliance will host a Thanksgiving Feast for all on Thanksgiving day. The Ellis County First Call for Help will provide volunteers to help serve the meal. The event will be held from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden Banquet Hall located at 2350 E 8th Street.

Free will donations are accepted for entry but there is no cost to attend. Carry-out meals for those who are unable to leave their homes on Thanksgiving will be available on the 28th between 1-1:30 PM at the banquet hall’s west side door. Celebration Church sponsored a food drive to provide for the groceries in the carryout meals.

Now in its 12th year, the community meal will serve up a classic menu of turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, coleslaw, hot rolls, and pie.

The Ellis county First Call for Help organization’s mantra is “Improving the quality of life in Ellis County by connecting people to needed resources.’’ On this Thanksgiving, their volunteers will provide not only a meal but the important community atmosphere that goes along with it.
