Walther, Lopez earn academic honors

Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer student-athletes Moritz Walther and Rogelio Lopez were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team on Thursday (Nov. 7). They are two of 11 selections in District 7, which reflects teams from Great American Conference. The honor is voted on by Sports Information and Athletic Communications professionals within District 7, which reflects both academic and athletic accomplishments of the individuals selected.

Walther owns a 3.88 grade point average as a Health and Human Performance major at FHSU, while Lopez owns a 3.55 grade point average as a Physics major. Both were recipients of the MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award last year which goes to individuals that receive all-conference accolades and have at least a 3.5 GPA.

On the field, Walther earned D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team and All-MIAA Second Team honors last year. Lopez earned All-MIAA Second Team honors and was the MIAA Freshman of the Year. Walther has 24 points in his career so far with 7 goals and 10 assists, while providing three game-winning goals. Lopez has also accumulated 24 points in his career with nine goals and six assists, while providing two game-winning goals.
