Volleyball falls to No. 2 Lopers

BY HAILEY CHAPMAN

The Fort Hays volleyball team suffered a three set loss to No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday evening at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The team fell 25-12, 25-12 and 25-17 to the undefeated Lopers.

Leading the attack for the Tigers was sophomore Isabelle Reynolds with 12 kills, followed by Delaney Humm with nine, and Morgan West and Morgan Christiansen both with two. Katie Darnell had 12 assists on the night, while Madison Miller and Taylor White led the defense with 12 digs each. Jordan Eshbaugh and Emily Ellis added a pair of blocks for the Tigers on the night.

The first two sets seemed to breeze by for the Lopers; however in the third set, the Tigers put up a fight. Down 18-8, the Tigers called a timeout and rallied back to close the gap 21-17. The Lopers were able to score the next four points consecutively to end the match.

The Tigers were just one of many teams to fall to the Lopers this year. The closest of all MIAA games the Lopers have competed in was against Central Missouri. They are the only team this year to take UNK to five full sets.

Fort Hays’ final regular season game will take place in St. Joseph, Mo., against Missouri Western on Thursday with first serve set for 5 p.m.
