The weekly Student Government Association meeting was held on April 18.

Earlier that day, polls in the SGA’s annual election closed. This election allowed students to vote for who would represent them as senators in the SGA and who will serve as President and Vice President.

Sophomore Brad DeMers was elected as President while Junior Michael Musgrove was elected as Vice President.

Following the reading of the results, the executive staff read their weekly reports.

President Schibi attended a meeting regarding university tuition and fees. According to him, the tuition amount was discussed but has yet to be set.

During the week, he, along with Legislative Affairs Director Mountford, also continued preparations for the next Higher Ed Day. LAD Mountford later mentioned that this constituted a lot of research on his part and looking into funding.

With the previous Saturday having been the day of the Big Event, Community Relations Director Dougherty gave a short recap of the service event.

She said that the day was a success. After speaking with the organizations that received assistance through the Big Event, they told her that all of the projects taken on by the volunteers were completed.

During the committee reports, few committees had anything to report, but the chair of Senate Affairs did state that they held their last meeting of the year.

In the open forum, the senators discussed problems with the write-in function of the online ballots.

According to President Schibi, he was made aware of the problem several minutes after the election opened on Wednesday. Voters discovered that they were unable to write-in candidates on the ballot.

The problem was soon resolved, but not before ballots with blank write-ins were submitted. Schibi said that those who had difficulties with the function were allowed to resubmit their vote.

For the New Business portion of the meeting, a waiver to fund a Study Abroad trip to Greece and Italy was read.

For Old Business, four bills were passed to provide funding for a trip four students took to Branson to attend the Missouri Association of Treatment Court Professionals annual conference.

The meeting concluded following announcements. This included the Fort Hays Rodeo that is being held this weekend, a grilled cheese dinner by the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, and Earth Day on Monday.

The Student Senate will reconvene on April 25.
