Wrestling completes Golden Norseman with 9 placers

MIAMI, Okla. – The No. 12 ranked Fort Hays State wrestling team compete at the Golden Norseman Open on Saturday (Feb. 2), hosted by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. The Tigers finished the event with nine placers. Cole Zebley (Unattached), Ryne Cokeley, Isaiah Luellen (Unattached) and Micquille Robinson all earned runner-up finishes. Braden Visnieski, Devin Onwugbufor (Unattached) and Tyler Boone captured third-place finishes, while Nathan Dotson (Unattached) and Ryan Tiers finished in fourth place.

Zebley finished 3-1 on the day in round robin format of the 133-pound weight class. He defeated Braden Visnieski (FHSU) by decision (6-5), Trenton Hackworth (Otero JC) by decision (14-8) and Alec Cassaboom (Cowley County CC) by fall (4:49).

Cokeley finished 2-1 on the day in the 149-pound weight class. He defeated Marqual Graham (NEO) by major decision (17-6) and teammate Anthony Scantlin (FHSU) by decision (6-2).

Luellen finished 3-1 on the day in the 165-pound weight class. He defeated Arman Mansouri (Lyon College) by technical fall (20-4), Jordan Alcala (Otero JC) by technical fall (21-6) and Derrick Top (Lyon College) by fall (4:55).

Robinson finished 2-1 on the day in the 184-pound weight class. Robinson defeated Derrion Miller (Arkansas Baptist College) by major decision (15-1) and Isaiah Hennings (Lyon College) also by major decision (15-2).

Visnieski finished 2-2 on the day in the 133-pound weight class. Visnieski defeated Alec Cassaboom (Cowley County CC) by fall (4:57) and Trenton Hackworth (Otero JC) by technical fall (18-1).

Onwugbufor finished 4-1 on the day in the 141-pound weight class. Onwugbufor defeated Vincent Eremita (Unattached-Newman) by decision (10-3), Jory Brumnett (NEO) by decision (11-4), Kyri Beasley (NEO) by decision (8-2) and Xavear Cullors (NEO) by fall (4:32).

Boone finished 3-1 on the day in the 184-pound weight class. Boone defeated Cameron Hunt twice in the tournament, the first time by major decision (9-1) and the second time by injury default. He also defeated Derrion Miller (Arkansas Baptist College) by fall (1:27).

Dotson finished 2-2 on the day in the 174-pound weight class. Dotson defeated JD Johnson (Unattached-Newman) by decision (5-2) and Elijah Joseph (Oklahoma) by decision (4-3).

Tiers finished 2-2 on the day in the 197-pound weight class. Tiers defeated Jonathan Gomez (Unattached) by fall (1:34) and David Wright (Unattached-UCO) by decision (14-13).

The Tigers have a week off before making their way up to Kearney, Neb. to face No. 2 ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday (Feb. 10) at 3 p.m.
