Wrestling hits road for Midwest Duals

The No. 12 ranked Fort Hays State wrestling team continues their week with the Midwest Duals on Saturday (Jan. 19) in Kearney, Neb. The Tigers will battle with Colorado Mesa before taking on No. 7 ranked CSU-Pueblo. The dual against the Mavericks is set to commence at 9 a.m., while the Tigers will hit the mat against the ThunderWolves at 10:30 a.m.

The Tigers projected lineups consist of two seniors, three juniors, three sophomores, one redshirt-freshman and two true freshmen.

125 | True freshman Broderick Green enters the weekend 8-15 overall and leads the squad in pins (six).
133 | FHSU has two options for this weight class. Conrad Cole is fresh off a win in the dual against Colorado School of Mines and carries an 8-10 overall record. Payton Sadowski looks for his fifth win of the season.
141 | No. 2 ranked Brandon Ball is riding a 14-0 bout winning streak heading into the Midwest Duals. Ball earned his 101st career win in the dual against the Orediggers (Jan. 17).
149 | Senior Ryne Cokeley enters the weekend 1-3 on the year.
157 | Jonathan Ball is 14-8 on the season, including a 4-5 clip against Division II competition.
165 | Either No. 4 ranked Efe Osaghae or Jonathan Ball will get the nod in this weight class. Osaghae is 18-3 so far this year, with a 12-2 record against Division II opponents. Osaghae paces the team with five technical falls.
174 | No. 9 ranked Marty Verhaeghe looks to bounce back after suffering an 8-0 major decision defeat against the Orediggers Thursday night. Verhaeghe is 16-8 on the year and is 13-2 in Division II action.
184 | Senior Micquille Robinson paces the team in wins (27) and major decisions (nine). Robinson sits at 27-5 this season.
197 | True freshman Tyler Boone is set to take hold of the 197-pound class for the Tigers and is 13-7 on the year, including a 5-1 mark against Division II foes.
285 | A.J. Cooper has made his mark in the heavyweight class with a 15-8 overall record and an 8-8 clip among Division II competition.

Colorado Mesa enters the weekend 5-5 in duals. The Mavericks have two wrestlers ranked individually. At 141-pounds, senior Eduardo Penha is ranked No. 10, while junior Payton Tawater comes in at No. 6 at 157 pounds.

No. 7 CSU-Pueblo comes in with a 7-1 record in duals this season. The ThunderWolves have four wrestlers in the individual rankings. Redshirt-junior D’Andre Brumfield is ranked No. 2 in the 133-pound weight class. At 184-pounds, senior Tarrence Williams comes in at No. 7, redshirt-junior Haszell West sits at No. 7 at 197-pounds and redshirt-freshman Gavin Nye is ranked No. 4 among the 285-pound weight class rankings.
