Women’s basketball looks to bounce back at Washburn

The No. 3/1 Fort Hays State women’s basketball team looks to return to the win column Saturday (Jan. 19) when the Tigers travel to Topeka, Kan. to take on the Washburn Ichabods. First tip from Lee Arena is set for 1:05 p.m. The 15-1 (6-1 MIAA) Tigers are coming off their first loss of the season after a program-best 15-win start to the year.

The Tigers trail Washburn in the all-time series, 47-33, including a 25-15 Ichabod lead in games played in Topeka. FHSU has controlled the series of late, winning six of the last seven meetings. Hobson is 8-12 against the Ichabods, including a 2-7 mark inside Lee Arena.

Tatyana Legette is 10 points away from becoming the 20th member of the 1,000 point club at FHSU. The senior has reached 990 points in 110 games, scoring in double figures 46 times.

Carly Heim averages 13.8 points in four career matchups with the Bods. Taylor Rolfs averaged 11.5 points in the two games last year. Legette and Kacey Kennett both have a double-doulbe against WU to their name.

Washburn heads into the weekend on a nine-game winning streak, building its record to 11-4 overall and 6-0 in MIAA play. The Ichabods have not lost since November, when they opened the year 2-4 in the first month of the season. WU ranks second behind the Tigers in scoring defense, limiting teams to just 57.9 points per contest. The Ichabods boast three players averaging 10 or more points, led by sophomore Hunter Bentley’s 11.3 points per night. Junior Reagan Phelan is tied for second in the conference with an average of 4.7 assists every game.
